Natanel Gluska, the artist who sees the spirit of nature in materials

Initially, this artist who was born in Israel but lives and works in Switzerland had graduated from Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and worked as a painter before turning to three-dimensional artwork, making a debut in an exhibit of works by emerging, spirited designers, Salone Satellite, in the Milan Fair. This event propelled him to become internationally known and an object of interest of design work lovers.

Among these were world-class celebs and famous designers, such as superstar of the design circle Philippe Starck, king of the fashion circle Karl Lagerfeld and matriarch of the fashion circle Donna Karen, who took possession of his conspicuous master pieces to enhance their status and taste.

Gluska became famous through processing a sustainably sourced natural material like trees with the skill and experience of an expert that transformed them into various forms of furniture with beautiful shapes and lines that are full of emotion, his "sculpture" is "one of seating object".

Take the “Long 8 ” for instance, a long chair with inspiration from the shape of an Arabic numeral, numeral 8, which was stretched out according to the curvy biological shape of the tree trunk that was its origin with the finesse that turned the trunk into a beautiful object full of nature’s spirit on which one can lie down to rest.

Or the “Crocodile Bench”, a bench which makes it seem as if the crafter saw the spirit of this amphibian hidden within the log and brought out its true shape and tamed it until it became a support for our buttocks.

Or the “V Stool”, a symmetrical seat with simple, clean lines inspired by the seductive shape of woman, which is a perfect combination of a simple, minimal image of the modern style and a comfortable, mild feel of natural material.

Besides wood, he also uses other materials of diverse kinds, such as copper, which he used to create artwork in the form of furniture medium using his own figure in different postures as a model. There are the “Fisherman” lamp, a cast image of himself fishing, and the “Little Strong Man” table, cast twin images of himself steadfastly propping up the table top instead of table legs. (Every image wears his favourite cap, which is his trademark.)

His works are different from most works. With their appearances that are full of emotion and their special, unique characters, those who purchase his works are no ordinary people but those who know exactly what they want and are interested in cultural richness and diversity.

Most recently, he returned to two-dimensional works, which are his roots, yet he still hasn’t given up his signature and skillfulness in playing with natural material like wood to create a woodcut that presents the image of the woods in his memory profoundly and passionately.

S.A.C. Subhashok The Arts Centre is very proud to present the exhibition “One for the Birds” by artist Natanel Gluska, his first solo exhibition in Thailand. A collection of both 2 and 3 dimensional works is to be displayed all over an area of 600 square meters covering the first and second floors of S.A.C. Subhashok The Arts Centre with Mr. Subhashok Angsuvarnsiri (chief executive officer of S.A.C. Subhashok The Arts Centre) acting as curator.
The exhibition will be open to the public continually from 15 October to 13 November 2016 on the opening days and during the opening hours of the center. (Tuesday-Saturday : 10:00-17:30 and Sunday : 12:00-18:00).
